Firmware Update: NWZ-A17 - Version 1.21

Sony USA has released a firmware update for the A17. LINK, this should work for the A15 but update at your own risk. I have not seen the update on Sony Europe's site yet.

Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 1.21:
  • The memory type (such as a built-in memory/SD card) can now be selected even while connected via USB
  • Addresses an issue where, in rare cases, sound may not be produced when the WALKMAN is connected with the digital amplifier
  • Provides additional function updates
  • Supports LDAC (a newly developed high resolution codec) during Bluetooth® connection.
  • Improves a condition where the Walkman may be slow in action when a FLAC (Free Lossless
  • Audio Codec) file, which has more than one jacket picture, is played and moves to the next or previous song
Instructions
  1. Download the NWZ-A10_V1_21.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Connect your Walkman player to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the NWZ-A10_V1_21.exe file to begin the installation.
  4. Carefully follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.
IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the player from the computer while the update is in progress.

Note: During the update the USB connection is automatically controlled and the Connecting USB message is not displayed. On some computers a USB Disconnect message may be displayed.
When the Completed message is displayed, click Finish.

  5. Could anyone tell me if upgrading the firmware will cause the library, and more importantly the sense-me info having to be rebuild?

    Thanks!

    1. When I upgraded it rebuilt my library, but it didn't take long. As for sense me, not sure, I havn't used it in a while.

    2. Thanks for your reply! When I transferred my music to a higher capacity SD card, it had to rebuild all the sense-me info, which took about 4 days during which I couldn't use my player... I'd like to not run into that again.

Could you tell me if the switching between internal memory and SD card works as advertised with the new firmware?

      Thanks again,
      JAy

    3. Oh and one more thing if I may... over on head-fi some people said that the upgrade changed the player's sound signature. Did you experience any changes there?

      Cheers,
      Jay

  6. I have not noticed any difference in sound signature. I don't recall about the switching between SD and internal memory but I believe both the SD and internal memory now show up in windows explorer and you can browse both without the need to switch within the player software.

    1. I upgraded my player and everything is fine! You can now switch between SD and internal memory from the player's screen while it is connected via USB for file transfer. The switch reboots the player and then it re-attaches itself with the desired memory showing. Unfortunately, you can't see both SD and internal memory at the same time.

      Thanks for your responses,
      Jay
