Sony WF-1000XM5 Firmware Update, version 5.0.2

Sony WF-1000XM5 Firmware Update, version 5.0.2

Sony has dropped a new firmware update for the WF-1000XM5, version 5.0.2, which is a big jump from the previous 4.0.2. Here are the changes:

  • Adds services that support Quick Access and Scene-based Listening
  • Allows you to choose from three Bluetooth connection methods on some smartphones:
    • Prioritize Sound Quality
    • Prioritize Stable Connection
    • Low Latency
  • Enhances system software security features
  • Improves general performance

This update does seem to address the security issues recently raised. Airoha has been notified, and has issued a SDK update according to the Insinuator team. Whether Sony will be updating all of their models like the lower end devices, remains to be seen.

Make sure both your phone and earbuds are fully charged before updating.

  1. So the Low Latency (Beta) option is essentially just a relocation of the LE Audio (Beta) setting. Still requires re-pairing and disables a bunch of features. It's been beta very long now.

My update notification said Apple Music would be available for quick access, but I guess not in my region. I believe it has worked on my iPad for months but hoping Android will get quick access or more importantly scene based (auto play) soon.

    1. XM6 uses the same BT SoC, and they have multipoint via LC3, so it's definitely possible.

I guess they'll keep this as a feature for the future XM6 buds.
