So this was not a surprise, posted about a possible debut after the FCC filing was made back in December, plus of course the teaser from Sony Austra/Switzerland. Checking out various Sony websites, it appears the new Z will be available soon in Europe, like Germany (32, 16GB), Poland (16GB), UK (32GB), France (16GB), Italy (32. 16GB) with Music Unlimited being available on the device in the selected countries that have the service. Availability will be from Late February which is a step forward compared to the X-Series release a few years back. The new Z is nice but it is no different in the end from any other Android Smart phone except for the music quality which I am sure if much better than any regular Android Smart phone. But if I was to get anything, it would be a tablet with WiFi rather than another phone like Android device with WiFi.
Press release and more photos after the break.

Technical Specifications
No mention of the noise-cancellation feature that is a part of the Japanese version...
ReplyDeleteNoticed that once I saw the headphones in the press shots so until NC comes back to the Walkman range I will keep the X Series for now.
ReplyDeleteI love my 32GB X as well, but I'm getting tired of it losing its place when I have it on shuffle play, and always starting with the first song when I turn it on after it's been off for a day or two. I think I might opt for the Japanese version.
ReplyDeleteNo word of these in Australia yet but I want 64GB and noise cancelling anyway, which clearly is not happening. I suspect we'd only end up with the black model too, which also seems to be the case for the US.
ReplyDeleteSony makes beautiful hardware but seriously has no clue as to what customers who care about their music actually want. And you'd have to care about your music to buy one of these instead of an iPod touch.
I believe the Japanese version Z series allows changing the language to English so I'll be looking at importing again.
