Sony Japan has introduced the new A-Series to Japan, 2 versions will be available, A16 and A17, 32 and 64GB respectively. This was expected, but was surprised me and has me a bit irritated is that the Japanese A-Series features built in noise cancellation. The 64GB model will come only in black and silver, where as the 32GB model comes in all 4 colours, red, blue, black and silver. Prices are 35,000 (A17) and 25,000 (A16) yen, so around 250 and 180 euros, again cheaper than in Europe, which appears to be getting screwed over. Release will be November 8.
Rest of the information, photos and sources after the break.
Hands on from AV-Watch
Apart from ATRAC support, noise cancellation, and the 32GB model, there are no differences from the international version. I do not understand why Sony did not include noise cancellation for Europe. Sony Japan will also offer 3 new cases for the new A-Series, something which I feel will NOT make it to Europe or elsewhere as usual.
CKM-NWA10 (November 8, 2000 yen)
CKH-NWA10 (November 8, 3000 yen)
CKS-NWA10 (November 8, 4000 yen)
wow, this is so exciting, noise cancelling is a must for me, I just hope we could change the language from Japanese to English on the device
ReplyDeleteYes, is there any way we can get confirmation on English on these models?
DeleteLove the leather cases. They look cool.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to get an A-series. Though I might well wait for a new, Android-based, Hi-Res Walkman with a MicroSD slot.
Rock on! Seba
Why will Sony offer 16GB as entry level in the rest of the world and 32 GB in Japan?
ReplyDeletelooks like i am importing mine then...
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteWould you happen to know when these launch in Europe? I would like to buy it since my crappy iPod classic broke again. I was considering the NWZ F886, until I saw this one. Which one would be wiser to buy; the F886 or this new A17?
The A-series launches in Europe now, early october, shipping this week or next, no A17 in europe for now, only A15 (16GB)

Why A17 no in Europe ufffff
ReplyDeleteGood question, Sony pulled the same move with the older A series, the 840, only opting for a 16GB model and then a 6 months later introducing the 64GB model. Hopefully Sony will realize a 64GB model can also be sold, otherwise people will import it from Asia.
Deletewell i am definitely getting the 32gb Japanese version i have loads of atrac files and i do like noise cancellation..
