Check the firmware version
If the firmware of your WI-1000X/WH-1000XM2 is version "2.0.0" or above, you do not need to perform the update. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
- Launch the "Sony | Headphones Connect" application.
- Connect your WI-1000X/WH-1000XM2 to the "Sony | Headphones Connect" application.
- Tap the three dots (menu button) in the upper right corner.
- Select "WI-1000X Version" or "WH-1000XM2 Version". This item is shown only when the device is connected.
- Confirm the WI-1000X/WH-1000XM2 firmware version.
The instructions can be found on Sony's support website HERE. It is odd that one needs a phone to update the headphones but this is the times we are living in I guess. You can find the application on Google play or Appstore HERE.
It would have been nice to have an update app from the website, like an executable file and connecting the headphones via usb to the laptop, but nope. The fact the app has a rather mediocre rating on Google play shows Sony is still incapable of making decent applications, anyone remember the old day of SonicStage?
