Firmware update 2.0.2 for Sony WF-1000XM3

Firmware update 2.0.2 for Sony WF-1000XM3

Sony has released another update for the WF-1000XM3 wireless headset. This makes it 2 updates this month, after the previous update had to be pulled earlier. The new update does bring some features users have been requesting from Sony for some time now. I have listed the changes below.

Benefits and Improvements from the latest update

  • Adds support for Amazon Alexa
  • Adds the ability to adjust the volume using the headphones touch sensor
  • Adds the ability to check the battery level of the charging case using the Sony | Headphones Connect app
  • Improvements in other functions

Previous Benefits and Improvements

The following benefits and improvements are also included in this update.
  • Improves connectivity with iOS
  • Improves other functions
  • Improves connectivity with Windows 10, resolving an issue where on some specific builds of Windows 10, sound would not playback after Bluetooth pairing
  • General performance and stability improvements

It is great to see Sony updating the functions and features of the WF-1000XM3. With the recent release of the Apple Airpods Pro, Sony has some new competition even though some reviews still say Sony provides the better Noise cancellation experience. While I doubt a price drop will occur any time some, I suspect there might be some good deals this Christmas.

The Alexa support is welcomed for those that use it, but I think the touch sensor volume adjustment and the ability to check the charging case battery level are the major benefits with this update.

  1. Today I installed this update. Unfortunately I you use volume control you need to sacrifice play-back controls.

Ascrariss Do you expect the WH-1000xm4 to be announced in ces?

    1. Really? hopefully Sony can figure it out to have both functions.

No WH-1000XM4 on the FCC or the bluetooth certification, so it is not looking likely. But They might show the headphones at CES possibly but the release could be a few months after that. Once something appears on the FCC/BT cert site, I will post it. As far now, I have heard no rumours.

    2. Yes,
For the left side I use the ambient sound modus. You can use volume controls on the left side and playback in the right side. But then you miss ambient sound modus.

Hopefully sony will resolve this in the next update
