Software Update version 1.01.00 for Sony NW-ZX500 / NW-A100 Walkmans

I missed this update last month, apologies, so posting it now. Sony has released a firmware update for the ZX500 and A100 Walkmans. The update should appear automatically on the Walkman as a notification, so WiFi will need to be turned on in order to get the notification update.

Here are the benefits and improvements:

• Provides a Security Update
• Fixes an issue where black dots and lines appear on the Home screen
• Fixes an issue where images of the quick setting panel were not correctly displayed
• Fixes an issue where the Wi-Fi does not turn on from time to time
• Improves general functions

The update brings the version up to 1.01.00. To check which version your Walkman is on, follow these steps.

1. Swipe the Home screen upwards.
2. Tap [Settings] – [System] – [About device]
3. The model name and the software version are shown in [Model & hardware] and [Build number] respectively.

Sony does state that if the date and time are not set correctly, the update notification may not show up. Other than using WiFi, Sony also says that Music Center for PC can be used to download the update. I have not used the software but from my past experience with some of Sony's music software, I would caution its use, maybe it works fine now. If anyone has any experience in it, please post your thoughts below in the comments. 

Here are some notes before upgrading. Make sure the device is at least 60% charged and connected so it is charging; has at least 2GB of free space, not microSD but system storage; and the once updated to the new firmware, you cannot revert back to the old one.
