Sony WF-SP800N FCC Teardown

The FCC teardown is finally available for viewing for the WF-SP800N. There are not many surprises in the teardown and it does confirm the Mediatek MT2811S Bluetooth chip. In fact, the documents even have the name of the chip as a label, MT2811SP/A.

Looking at the first photo, the MT2811 and the MT6388P are present on this side of the PCB. The MT6388P is the same power management chip as seen in the WF-1000XM3 and WF-H800. On the far left of the photo is a thin long chip, the writing on it is 421E41R8. A similar chip can be found in the WF-1000XM3 and WF-H800, and 52Audio claim this is the battery protection chip. The exact same chip is located in the WF-SP700N.

The PCB is double sided, with the other side containing a few other chips and the attachment point for the wireless antenna. One chip is labelled as Q128JWY, which is a similar chip to the Q128FWY in the WF-1000XM3, 128mb serial flash memory. The chip here is of different size versus the one in the WF-1000XM3, so either Sony used this one in order to save on space or perhaps it is a newer more efficient chip. The chip to the right of the flash memory is unreadable but the one to the left is 310819250292C. Again the same chip is found in the WF-1000XM3 but not the WF-H800, so perhaps it is related to Noise cancellation. If anyone knows its function, please leave a comment below.

The rest of the teardown shows the following 2 photos, and not much else. The case is not taken apart since there is no NFC in it, so until a full teardown is performed by someone, the battery capacity is unknown. Same for the battery used in the actual earbuds, it is not shown here in the teardown, is either the same battery as in the WF-1000XM3 and WF-H800, Varta CP1254 or something else.

The teardown does confirm that Sony is using the Noise cancellation abilities of the MT2811S rather than a stand alone chip from Sony like the WF-1000XM3 uses, which is unfortunate but might explain the longer battery life of the WF-SP800N versus the WF-1000XM3, less power is used because of less chips.
