It appears Sony has addressed the 10db drop in the low end for the A-Series with a firmware update. In addition both models also get the new Android security updates, along side some other fixes.
Benefits and Improvements
- Provides a Security update (The security level displayed in the Settings menu will be as of January 2023)
- Reduces noise that can occur when playing music under specific conditions via a Bluetooth connection
- Improves general performance (Only NW-ZX707)
- Fixes the low-range frequency characteristics when music is played on wired headphones (Only NW-A306)
Looking at the head-fi post, it seems the issue was solved.

This means there is no worry about importing a unit from an area without the volume cap since the bass issue has been solved.
Good that Sony has addressed this issue, just wish Sony would also acknowledge and address the battery drain issues for WF-1000XM4 users.
Thanks for the heads up Richard.
You comment about people worrying where they imported their units from, but even JP units were being affected by the bass issue.
ReplyDeleteWell I pointed out in the original post (check the log) that users who imported from Japan also had the issue. I never said that Japan didn't have the issue. Btw volume cap is not the issue with the 10dB low end drop. 2 different things
DeleteUnfortunately, the NW-A306 has still got at least one other major defect: wifi-related interference. With wifi enabled, many users are reporting audible noise occurring on the left channels of some IEMs and headphones.
ReplyDeleteUnlike the problem with frequency response, the wifi noise issue has garnered a significant number of complaints on Amazon Japan.
Bruh I thought I was hearing things. Good to know it was not just my unit. I guess I'll need to use Spotify in offline mode then
DeleteThank you for a beautifully crafted site'. I wish you success. good job..........
ReplyDeleteThis new firmware is weird, it fixes the bass roll-off issue on A306, but it screws up the bass on ZX707 after updated. I hope Sony would address this issue and fix it in the next firmware update.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. The rumbling sub-bass is gone and the mid bass is also week on the Zx707 after the latest update. I regret updating it too soon. Never buying a Sony DAP again.
Deletecan you please tell me is this bass problem has been fix in last up date yet? or this problem still exists
