Back in January 2021 at CES, Sony during their pres conference showed a video where an unknown headset made an appearance. While I was never able to get an answer what these were, it seems they might have been a test device for the a new pair of Sony Monitor headphones.
Update:
Thanks for a comment from an user below, it seems this unknown model was used for mixing during the Covid Pandemic for 360 Reality audio when Sony's studio's were closed. Perhaps the new model will allow producers to do such mixing outside of Sony's studios, thus expanding the amount of 360 Reality Audio.
The new headset has a similar look, the headband and supporting arms are the same on the new model as in these 2021 photos, but the ear cups are more elongated rather than round.
The vents on the side and cups are different in design as well on this new model, more thing and long without the support in the middle. The sides of the earcups are also covered in small holes, maybe 2mm or so in diameter.
The size of the earpads when compared to the MDR-M1ST are larger, a good 15-20%, and the material is the same as in the video, a soft material, rather than leather like on the MDR-M1ST.
I do not have a model name, but from what I was shown, these appear to be production ready and could be announced soon, perhaps April, maybe a bit later. They are definitely for the professional market since the "Professional" sticker is on the side.
Anyways, if anyone has any more details about this new upcoming model, please contact me or drop a comment below.
This is exciting😃 btw keep up the good work on reporting on Sony headphones👍🏻
ReplyDeleteI like the design a lot, definitely interested in them.
ReplyDeleteHi, while googling I found this page that had the old design from Sony's website. It seems like they were used for their 360 reality audio mixing during the pandemic when their studios were closed.
