Sony WF-1000XM5 Firmware Update, version 3.2.1

Sony WF-1000XM5 Firmware Update, version 3.2.1

Sony has released a new firmware update, version 3.2.1, for the WF-1000XM5 earbuds. Here is what is updated:

  • Expanded the number of supported LE Audio devices
  • Improved the Bluetooth connection stability under specific conditions

I do no see a list of the expanded LE Audio devices, so this without a list, it is difficult to know what is supposed now. Anyone seen a list from Sony with these devices online somewhere? If so, please post it below.

Edit Sony Japan does have a page with the list. See this page, but I will post the devices below.

  • Xperia 5 IV
  • Xperia 1 IV
  • Galaxy Z Flip5
  • Galaxy Z Flip4
  • Galaxy S23
  • Galaxy Z Fold5
  • Galaxy Z Fold4
  • Google Pixel 8 Pro
  • Google Pixel 8
  • Google Pixel 7a
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro
  • Google Pixel 7

The Samsung S24 Ultra also works but is not on Sony's own list for some reason.

Before updating, make sure both your phone and earbuds are fully charged and you are using the latest Headphones Connect app, version 10.4.0

  1. WF-1000xm5: There's a new item under Headphones > System > (Beta) Headphone connection settings > LE Audio Priority
Pocof3 doesn't support LE audio so can't test

  2. Thanks for the notification. Reading the firmware notes in my language or even the English version it almost sounded like they just increased how many devices you can pair without unpairing: "Expanded the number". But doing the update it clearly said "Expanded the range of devices with LE Audio support". After updating, if I switch to LE Audio mode on my Xperia 1 V, it pops up the usual warning and a link to https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00288374?fwVer=&modelName=WF-1000XM5&country=SE&language=en&source=M:HPC. It seems this page has now been updated to talk about general smartphones and a section for "Devices other than Xperia". So it seems "all" smartphones are now supported.

    Improves overall functionality
Adds support for the beta version of LE Audio, which is optimal for games, etc
Note: An Xperia 1 IV or Xperia 5 IV phone is required (updated to the latest version of the smartphone software)
    Improves the hands-free calling quality

  4. Interesting that Sony Japan lists some devices, but my guess is they no longer apply a white list, and just allow all, as seen on my link.

By the way, the InZone Buds also got a firmware update, not sure if it was also today, that adds support for Sony Headphones Connect app! EQ, NC switching, changing the functions of left and right earbuds, and also two different LC3 modes: High Reliability (default) and Low Latency (recommended for gaming). I wonder what mode it used before, hopefully I can get some more stability now.
