Sony has resubmitted the WF-1000XM5 (YY2963) to Bluetooth SIG this week (Thanks Ed). But why? The headset already has support for LE Audio and LC3, so what could this re-certification be adding?
The Bluetooth version is the same, 5.3, but the software version of the earbuds is now at 4.0. The latest firmware update is 3.2.1. So we should expect a firmware update in the near future bumping the version to 4.0.0 I would imagine. The supported layers are identical, so not sure what is changing here. Would the addition of LC3plus require a recertification? Anyone know? The headset also has been submitted (maybe resubmitted) to Apple's MFi, or at least this is what it looks like. The date is April 19th. I am certain I recall seeing the WF-1000XM5 on Apple's MFi page before this date but I could be mistaken.
So whatever this update is, I guess we should see it by the Summer or Fall? If anyone is testing this firmware and would like to drop a hint or 2 what it is, please contact me on there or twitter.
And for those in the market for a new Sony WF-1000XM5, the model is still discounted on Amazon at around 17%. Check it out here.
Finally, if you wish to support my work, please check out my Buymeacoffee page. Thanks.
Maybe Sony bring support for PlayStation link to another Sony headphones ?
