Sony A300 and ZX700 Walkmans Receive Android 14 Update

Sony A300 and ZX700 Walkmans Receive Android 14 Update

Just my luck, as I was writing up a post that Android 14 update would most likely drop very soon, the update drops. Ah great timing.

The update has 3 changes:

  • Supports the Android 14 OS version update
  • To reduce battery wear, your Walkman will now automatically turn off after 72 hours of inactivity, even when Auto power off is set to Off
  • Provides security updates (the security patch level of the Settings menu will reflect August 2024)

The A-Series is discounted now on Amazon Germany -17%. Unfortunate the other areas like US, Canada and UK, there no discounts. I am still in the market for a new Walkman, but not sure if I will save up for a new Xperia or wait for a new line of Walkmans.

Please leave your comments on the new update in below. Thanks to everyone who sent this in as well.

Amazon US - NW-A300 | NW-ZX700

Amazon Canada - NW-A300 | NW-ZX700

Amazon UK - NW-A300

Amazon DE - NW-A300

  1. I always loved their Xperia's, but Sony seemingly always drops support quickly to get in the next generation in. Now hearing that the A300 is being discontinued in Germany just under 2 years, it sounds like it's the same situation, and they might be getting ready to release a new line soon.

    1. curious, where did you hear they were dropping the A series? I've yet to see or hear anything about new models. But maybe soon.

  2. If you're in the market for a walkman I would get Japanese zx707.For me I only use local SD library and turn off all the bloat and wifi which really improves the battery as well. Knowing Sony, a new line of walkmans probably won't come out for a while.

    1. The ZX707 is a great device, especially as it is by far the fastest Android Walkman (although it's still slow compared to current smartphones - it's roughly on the same level as an Xperia 10 II from 2020). The thing is just that it's not THAT portable anymore, especially when using a case like the official one.
