I have discovered a new Sony headset code, YY2998, in an import filing. The only information we have is the type of headset, over-ears, and the colours, black and silver.
The information we have is very limited, and there are no certifications as of this post. The only time Sony has used silver for the headset colour is on their high end models, like the WH-1000X, WF-1000X and WI-1000X models. It cannot be the WH-1000XM6, that was just announced, and we know the new WF-1000XM6 is YY2985. Any potential WI model would be in-ear, not over-head, and I am certain Sony has quietly abandoned the WI line for the foreseeable future. So what could it be?
None of my contacts have mentioned this headset, so I am in the dark as well. So we are left with a a few options:
- WH-CH520 replacement
- WH-CH720N replacement
- a completely new model
With the WH-1000XM6 price increase, there is room for the WH-CH720N to move slightly upmarket, add better features, design, and performance. This is just my theory, and I could be wrong. So what do people think this could be, any ideas?
Update: September 17
A new import listing has appeared. This time of a device which underwent testing, perhaps for certification? Yes the date is from early July, but these import filings do not update in real time.
We still do not have any certification but this model will require one as it comes with Bluetooth. Another model has been certified, which follows this one, YY2999, also wireless. But neither certification reveals anything specific.
