Firmware Update to Version 2.3.0 for WF-1000XM3

Sony WF-1000XM3 firmware 2.3.0

Sony has pushed a new update for the WF-1000XM3. There are quite a few changes compared to the previous 2.1.0 update, but no aptX, which I do not think will happen ever sadly. The update should be available through the Sony headphones app.

Benefits and Improvements from the latest update
  • Fixes an issue where the volume operations are not correctly applied while the music is paused, even when operated from the smartphone
  • Fixes an issue where the volume adjustment bar is unintentionally displayed on some smartphones
  • Improves general performance

The update list is short but any update which improves performance is a welcome one. Here is a list of the previous changes that are included in this updates as well:

Previous Benefits and Improvements
  • Improves the quality of hands-free calling
  • Adds support for Amazon Alexa
  • Adds the ability to adjust the volume using the headphones touch sensor
  • Adds the ability to check the battery level of the charging case using the Sony | Headphones Connect app
  • Improves connectivity with iOS
  • Improves other functions
  • Improves connectivity with Windows 10, resolving an issue where on some specific builds of Windows 10, sound would not playback after Bluetooth pairing
  • General performance and stability improvements

As I mentioned above, I do not expect aptX on the WF-1000XM3, yes I made a post, and it was on the Qualcomm aptX website for a short while, but I feel this was a mistake. Qualcomm even removed the photo on the site, killing any hope left.

Depending how badly the coronavirus will affect future products, if Sony cannot get the WF-1000XM4 with with LDAC out in time for the holidays, perhaps Sony will push a LDAC update for the WF-1000XM3, even though battery life will be poor. Anyways, check the reddit post and post any issues there.
