Firmware Update to version 1.21.00 for NW-ZX500/NW-A100 series

Sony NW-ZX500 NW-A100 firmware update

Yesterday Sony released a new firmware for both new A-Series and the ZX-Series. There are not many improvements in the firmware unlike in the previous update, which I think I forgot to post about, but this update includes those previous updates as well.

Benefits and Improvements from the latest update
  • Provides Security Updates (The security patch level of the Settings menu will be as of February 2020)

IMPORTANT:
  • You will need to update both the Music Center for PC software and the Walkman firmware to the latest versions in order to improve connection stability. If either are not updated to the latest version, there is a possibility that Music Center for PC and Walkman device will not connect properly.
  • If the date and time are not set correctly on the Walkman, the update notification may not appear. Make sure the date and time have been set correctly. If they are not correct, set the date and time manually.

Previous Benefits and Improvements

The following benefits and improvements are also included in this update.
  • Provides Security Updates (The security patch level of the Settings menu will be as of January 2020)
  • Adds an Auto Power Off function to help prolong battery life
  • Fixes an issue where a message falsely stating the SD card is damage is occasionally displayed immediately after inserting the card
  • Improves general performance
  • Improves the connection stability with the Music Center for PC software
  • Provides a Security Update
  • Fixes an issue where black dots and lines appear on the Home screen
  • Fixes an issue where images of the quick setting panel were not correctly displayed
  • Fixes an issue where the Wi-Fi does not turn on from time to time
  • Improves general functions

Hopefully with more and more updates Sony will be able to improve the battery life which currently is not the best and people are complaining it sucks. I still do not think Android is that great of an OS for battery efficiency but the only way to solve this issue would be to have a larger battery. If Sony will have a new set of Walkmans this year is unknown but if they do, I hope they increase the battery size or improvement the battery life.

Anyways, thanks to anonymous for the firmware update tip.

  1. What do you think of the rumors regarding Sony addressing the 48kHz/16-bit bottleneck for streaming apps?

    1. I heard Sony is working on it, it even is mentioned in that review. Likewise I believe Sony is also working on implementing a new volume control method that bypasses the android volume control.

  2. I'm still deciding if I should get the A105 or not. The battery drainage is the main issue for me. Can anyone report on if the new firmware update improved it any better?
