Custom Sony Walkman firmware by MrWalkman (NW-A40, NW-ZX300, NW-WM1/A)
MrWalkman, a user from Head-fi, has created 3 custom firmwares for the NW-A40, NW-ZX300 and NW-WM1/A. The new firmwares bring improved sound and features. I would highly recommend anyone with these Walkmans to check out the firmware, especially on the NW-A40.

Removing the Volume Cap from European Sony Walkmans
One of the biggest complaints from Walkman owners in Europe is the volume cap that was imposed on the devices by the EU. While the service menu method used to work on some previous models to remove the cap, it did not work for everyone. Fortunately there is another method that helps remove the volume cap and restore FM radio function to the NW-A55L for example. Sony Japan has put up an interview with some of the engineering team responsible for the WH-1000XM4. The interview is in Japanese, but Google translate does a decent job at translating it. You can check out the interview here. I will admit this interview is also a bit like an advertisement for the new headphones, but it does provide some insight into the development.
