Sony WF-1000XM4 now available on Amazon

Sony WF-1000XM4

The new WF-1000MX4s are available on Amazon. Certain regions have it out of stock, but Amazon says it is working on getting new stock. I do wonder how much stock Sony has shipped or provided to various retailers, most likely less than when the WF-1000XM3 shipped I would imagine.

So a few issues before anyone picking these up.

First, there are some reports on Reddit that the left earbud cannot be used alone, only the right one (1). Next, ZDNet also has this issue in their review, perhaps a firmware issue and will be sorted out with an update. Supposedly this can be remedied by setting in the headphones app playback control for each earbud.

Second, a Reddit user posted video showing their foam tips broken already on the first day. Hopefully not a common occurrence, would be great if Sony sold replacement foam tips, or at least offered a second back up in the retail box.

Finally, looks like for some, the NC cuts out when no music is playing when on LDAC, see the post here. Again could be a firmware issue, but unknown. The NC does not cut out on AAC/SBC, so it might be firmware related.

Apart from these issues, the user reviews have been quite positive, applauding the noise cancellation and improved voice call quality. The new foam tips do provide a great fit and isolate noise quite well. These do seem like great earbuds, I am tempted to pick these up, but will need to save up first. Doubt I would post a review, would not be able to compare them to the WF-1000XM3, since I do not own a pair myself. Anyways, if you decide to grab a pair, check out the Amazon affiliate links, does help with Walkman fund.

  1. I ordered a pair of those on day one from Sony Japan’s online store (since they offer 10% discount for new customers, no questions asked, even if it’s a new product), but unfortunately the shipping date was set to June 25 right as the earbuds were released. I’ll try to scour some local electronics shops this weekend and see if I can get more lucky somehow.
