Sony has released the multipoint firmware for their LinkBuds line, LinkBuds and LinkBuds S. The firmware should be available via the Sony Headphone App.
Apart from the multipoint support, the update adds the following:
Linkbuds
- Adds support for the Android audio switch function
- Improves the Bluetooth connection stability
LinkBuds S
- Improves the Bluetooth connection stability
- Improves general performance
There is still no information when the WF-1000XM4 will get their update, just this Winter. This Winter, could be before the end of the year, or it could mean Winter 2022/23, so technically up to March 2023. But I hope it is the former, as it would be a great feature for the model for this Holiday season.
Of course Sony is working on the new model, so any multipoint firmware should be out before the new model drops, which could be early to middle Summer 2023. Sony might end up keeping the WF-1000XM4 on sale like they did the WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM5.
I have yet to receive any information about the new WF-1000XM5, but if Sony has been working on the new Walkmans since March 2022, I suspect the new WF-1000XM5 is more or less already finished and undergoing testing.
Should have been released on the top-of-the-range product (WF-1000XM4) first. This and the potential lack of an LC3 update feels a bite strange for a WF-1000XM4 owner.
