Another Sony wireless headset has appeared on the FCC, the YY2978. The first thought that comes into my head is, this looks like the WS-Series Walkman, but this is a headset and not Walkman. So the next thought, could this the production model of the WI-EO600? The original WI-EO600 (YY2962) had a limited production run, so perhaps Sony has decided to have a larger global release.
Update 2:
Whatever this headset ends up being, it just showed up on E-ComM, Malaysia's certification site.
Update:
The device has appeared on Korea's FCC. The headset is made in Thailand.

Sony WI-OE600 |
The FCC documents reveal little, the internal battery is a 3.7V one, not 3.85V as with other recent headsets. The testing site is Shenzhen, so I suspect these might be made in China. The Bluetooth software being used is Bluetooth RF Test Tool v5.2.2.16. Digging into some other testing documents, I found the exact same program version and with RTLBTAPP name attached to it. So this appears to be Realtek Bluetooth testing software, and coincidentally the WI-OE600 uses a Realtek RTL8763B chip. Looking back at the original WI-OE600 FCC documents, the same software is used, Ss perhaps this the WI-OE600 production model after all.
I could be wrong and this might end up being a completely different model but gut is telling me this is just the WI-OE600 in production form.
If I find out anything more, I will update the post.
An update to the WS-series and the WF-SP900 is long overdue.
ReplyDeleteI don't really expect any non android walkmans in the future, no real market for them now days, which is a shame. as fro the WF-SP900, the WF-SP800N as kind of an update, but Sony might just add more water and dust proofing to the next WF-1000XM5 and would not need any SP model. Just a thought.
DeleteIf the high-end model can get waterproof body then it'd be great, but I doubt it. Sony audio products have always been very segmented.
DeleteSony is the only prominent player in the field of waterproof headset for swimming. There has been no competition for years and I guess that's why no new model has come out. Nor has the price dropped (at least here in Thailand). The WS-series actually continues to sell here, though swimming headset is but a niche market. Sony could have marketed heavily on this, but like every market they're in, they are among the worst marketing-wise.
I'm hoping for an update to the WF-SP900. I have been using it for years since it first came out in Japan and it has the worst battery I have seen.
