Sony has finally released the Multipoint firmware update for the Sony WF-1000XM4. The version is now 2.0.0 and has been released in all regions, unlike 1.6.1.
This new firmware includes the battery drain fix in 1.6.1 and the unknown changes in 1.5.0. Comparing to older firmware updates, I cannot seem to identify what was changed in 1.5.0, perhaps someone from Sony could leave a comment down below. Here are all the previous included changes:
- Reduces the burden on the battery
- Reduces the loss of battery capacity due to long-term use
- Improves the stability of music playback
- Improves call voice quality
- Improves general performance
- Improves the stability of Bluetooth connection and music playback
- Enhances other functions to improve general performance
- Improves Bluetooth connection stability
- Fixes an issue where the Noise Canceling function or Ambient Sound Mode is momentarily interrupted
- Improves other functions
As always, I would say wait and see what others on Reddit say before upgrading.
Update: I am seeing that some users are searching whether the update fixes things like battery drain, and the simple answer is no, but this depends if you already had battery drain before the update. The battery drain issue seems to stem from the batteries and their age it seems. The longer a person has had the WF-1000XM4, the more likely that battery drain is present. I am on 1.5.0 with my WF-1000XM5 and do not have battery drain, but I bought my model back in late 2022, so they are relatively still new.
So the best option is to replace both batteries in both earbuds. Ideally Sony should do this, free of charge, but in some areas they will not. So the other option is buying the batteries and replacing them yourself. See my post here. While not difficult, it can be tricky if you do not have the tools. One can always try to contact some electronic repair shops and ask if they would be willing to replace the batteries if you provided them the new ones.

finally!
ReplyDeleteIt's about time
ReplyDeleteNice 😁
ReplyDeleteWelp, hopefully now when my new batteries arrive I'll get more than. 1 year before they are dead. Ever since 1.6.1 I've had 45mins battery life.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting thing is that starting with this 2.0.0 version, there are 3 different firmware files. There is one labeled "chinese" for devices intended for the Chinese market, one labeled "japanese" for the Japanese market, and one labeled "english" for the rest of the markets. This could open the possibility of getting a slightly different sound with each variant.
ReplyDeleteEnglish variant: 3.64 MB
Chinese variant: 3.65 MB
Japanese variant: 3.77 MB
I just forced an update to the Japanese firmware (having EU buds) and it worked, but I didn't use the buds in quite some time since I got the WH1000XM5, so I can't exactly analyze sound differences. Forcing the update meant for Japanese devices changed the voice to Japanese, even though in the Headphones app it was still showing it as English. The language can be changed though, but you'll have to change it to something like French first, then back to English. It seems that when you change the language, it actually downloads a voice pack as a separate kind of firmware update, and then that pack is installed.
I just updated to 2.0.0 and now the charge reads 100% on both buds and doesn't change. When I put them in the case the light is always green. I tried running the proxy app to downgrade and it says I need to upgrade to the latest app for these buds. Lol. I'm screwed until a new version comes out.
ReplyDeleteDownload the latest app that works with MDR Proxy from my blog.
DeleteWorked like a charm. Thank you!
DeleteDid you downgrade, or did you upgrade via the MDR proxy? Got the same problem with the 100% batterystatus
DeleteI upgraded to 2.0 normally and got the 100% all the time. I downgraded to 1.6.1 with the proxy app. It worked, but every time I touched the button to skip songs etc... it would say "bluetooth device 2 replaced." I downgraded to 1.4.2 to see if it would go away, but it didn't. From there I upgraded normally to 2.0 and it started reading the right levels.
DeleteJust updated to 2.0 and noticed The bass lost it's punch, it doesn't sound like natural bass at it was. I'll try to reset and reanalize my ear to get a better natural sound.
ReplyDeleteThe update seems to break apps like spotify and YouTube on a galaxy s22 ultra. When two devices are connected, the apps play for about 2 seconds and then pause.
ReplyDeleteI've got the same issue. Few Similar reports on Reddit.
