The YY2975 headset has appeared on the FCC, and we have a confirmation that this is a set of earbuds and not a over the ear headset. This seems to corroborate that this is the new LinkBuds S mark 2. We also know this headset will come with active noise cancellation, just like the LinkBuds S.
The FCC files do not reveal too much, but we do know the battery will be 3.85V and the antenna in the earbuds will be a monopole antenna like in other Sony earbuds. The short term confidentiality end date is December 14th 2024. which is just under 6 months from now. But I suspect we could see these earlier, perhaps as early as September, but more likely October to November timeline.
So I suspect we will not see a new WH-1000XM6 this year, with Sony releasing both the earbuds and headphones next year as one generation.
Update: August 18 2024
The new LinkBuds S have passed through TDRA a few days back. I do not believe we will see the new model anytime soon. I suspect an announcement closer to the end of the year.
Update: 7-8-2024
The headset has appeared in import fillings. Unfortunately no colour codes are shown or model numbers to confirm the name.
Update: 30-6-2024
The new LinkBuds S passed through IMDA recently.
Update: 21-6-2024
The headset has passed through Indonesian certification. It does reveal that they are made in Vietnam. I have checked E-ComM, along with some other cert sites, and nothing yet.
If anyone has anymore information on the new LinkBuds S2 (YY2975), please contact me here on the blog, or via Twitter.

If Sony won't release a new WH-1000XM6 this year, the WFs will probably also be delayed and not released until 2026. I hope both upcoming models will support PS Link. Apart from that, the WFs are still pretty much top notch and I can't think of any important features that are missing and require new hardware.

I agree, there isn't anything right now that needs upgrading. Sony can work on the NC algorithm and improve that. Will be interesting if low power wifi becomes a thing in earbuds.
DeleteI've got something that would be interesting: LC3plus for Android 15 and later. https://x.com/aborne25/status/1805242808951030098

Wish that Sony bring ps link support for WF-1000Xm5
ReplyDeleteI guess PS Link is based on Low-Power Wi-Fi and not possible without hardware support.

Do we already know if the new LinkBuds S case will support wireless charging? That's the only reason why I didn't buy the first gen
ReplyDeletenothing certified on the wireless power website, so unknown if it will come with wireless charging. But the WF-1000XM5 only appeared on the cert site in early june, so a good 2 months before announcement. So we will need to wait to see to see if Sony has added the wireless charging option or not.

The A13 update has been spotted in September and released in December so it will likely still take some time...

nice find, guess this update might rule out any new walkmans in the short term.
