We finally have a new wireless Sony headset code, the YY2984. I have very little information, so this could be anything at this point, like the new WH-1000XM6, WF-1000XM6, or even a low end model.
I discovered the model in an import filing, which we can see below.
The description is rather vague but it could indicate an earbud model on account of the "plastic shell", but then it could be a false lead. We will have to wait for future certifications to find out what we are dealing with here. The purchase location is Vietnam, so perhaps a budget model then?
We also have some new Airoha/Mediatek SoCs thanks to Google and their compatibility list.
We have a few new Airoha chipsets. The AB157x and AB158x are already known, but the AB159x is new and not even on Airoha's website. I cannot find anything on Google either, but the chipset exists on Bluetooth SIG, showing 3 variants. AB1592, AB1595 and AB1595H. Finally we have the AB1611, but Googling that shows it is an older chip.
The new Mediatek chip is the MT285x, which could be the successor to the MT2833 (Sony V2), but just my speculation at this point. I have no information right now to confirm this. If you see other websites posting about a new V3 and MT2853 after my post, you will know it is just speculation.
So to summarize, new unknown wireless model, could be the WH-1000XM6, WF-1000XM6, or perhaps new WF-C710N. Could Sony debut a pair of earbuds in their ULT line? Perhaps, but not sure if such a need exists, since the WF-XB700 never received a successor after so many years.
If anyone knows what the YY2984 is, please drop it in the comments or contact me on Twitter.
Very exciting news! I'm hoping it's the WF-1000XM6. As I will eventually upgrade from the lovely XM5 in a year or two.
