Sony YY2981 appers on the FCC, most likley the WH-XB920N (update)

A new Sony wireless headset has appeared on the FCC, described as a "Wireless Noise Cancelling Stereo Headset", so we are probably looking at the new WHXB920N. Apart from the 2 recent INZONE announcements, the WH-XB920N is the other I was told about. But I do not have a release date but the final date in the FCC documents is April 11, 2024, so a release could be close to this date.

The current model was announced in September 2021, with a FCC appearance in mid June 2021. This is about 15 weeks from FCC to announcement.  If the new model follows a similar pattern, we could see a release in late January or early February.

Naturally the label photo reveals little, so we turn to the other documents. We know that the headset will feature USB Type-C, and the internal battery will be 3.85V with a capacity of 520mAh. Yet again, Sony will have 2 battery suppliers, Springpower and Chongqing VDL Electronics. The battery and capacity are identical to the old model. So far we do not have any information about the Bluetooth Chip, but we could be looking at 3 options, either the MT2822, or the new MT2833, or Sony's own CXD3277 found in the INZONE buds.

That is all from the FCC filing. I suspect we will see LE Audio support in the released model, along  with LDAC. Will be interesting if Sony makes the drivers smaller like they did with the WH-1000XM5. I would venture to guess we will get black and blue colour options again.

The headset was also certified in South Korea, confirming place of manufacture, China.

One thing I would love to see fixed on the new model is the plastic, it was not the highest quality and the headset felt a bit cheap. So anyone looking forwards to the new model?

Update 1 (March 03, 2024):

We have not had any leaks of the new model which is unfortunate, but we finally have some information about the SoC. Sony will be using the Mediatek MT2822M, which is the same chip Sony used in the WH-CH720N recently. The current WH-XB910N uses the M2822SA, which another variant of the chip.

The FCC end date is April 11th, so we are about a month away from a FCC reveal, so I would imagine an announcement will take place soon.
