Sony Headphone internal codes and Bluetooth SoCs

Sony WF-1000X teardown
Sony WF-1000X BT

In a previous article I outlined many of the current and past Walkman model internal codes Sony uses.  While the Walkman models use ICX for their prefix, the headphones use HDX. I will try to keep this updated with the latest information but it is not always possible to find the code, the Bluetooth chip or both.

Most of the information is from the FCC documents, some from the Bluetooth certifications, and some from teardowns. Not all of the data will be complete because the images on the FCC are of poor quality or the code is not always shown in the pictures from the FCC or teardown.

Here are the links to the Bluetooth SoCs Sony has used for the past few years in their headphones.

There is no link to the MT2811 since there is no information at the moment. Not sure if Mediatek is just keeping it unpublished for now or will not publish it at all. From the Bluetooth certification, this might just be an Airoha Bluetooth chip re-badged as a Mediatek one, but that is only a theory. I will have a post up about the chip shortly. I have updated the links above.

Update (March 2021 update): Updated the list with all the current and upcoming devices. Any entries with * beside them are not 100% confirmed/certain.There are many unknowns, the WI-1000X might be the HDX-2865, but it could also be the WI-SP600N. There is a chance the WF-H800 could be HDX-2942, with the WF-SP800N and WI-SP510 being either the HDX-2945 and HDX-2946 respectively, or vice versa.

The greyed out lines are possible models but have not appeared on any certification site. There is no guarantee they will appear though. Like wise, I have replaced the YY codes with HDX, since as seen in the WF-C500 teardown, Sony still uses the HDX naming scheme in house for development but opts for YYxxxx when certifying products to hide their identity.

Update (March 2022): Some new additions like the WH-1000XM5, gaming headsets, some SoC details. Some unknown models (if they exist), YY2949, YY2955, YY2956, YY2958. Perhaps these will be some future models or might no even exist.

If anyone is able to fill in any missing information, please leave a comment below. thanks.

  1. Hi! Great post!
Is there any chance you know which buttons are used on the HDX-2936 board? I drowned two of them and would like to replace them.

    1. Do you mean what kind of buttons? I do not know the model of buttons, but I can post a photo of the board below from a teardown.
