Sony Headphone internal codes and Bluetooth SoCs

In a previous article I outlined many of the current and past Walkman model internal codes Sony uses.  While the Walkman models use ICX for their prefix, the headphones use HDX. I will try to keep this updated with the latest information but it is not always possible to find the code, the Bluetooth chip or both.

Most of the information is from FCC documents, Bluetooth certifications, Apple Certifications, Country specific certifications, and from teardowns. Not all of the data in the table is complete and there will be gaps.

Here are the list of the Bluetooth SoCs Sony has used for the past few years in their headphones. I used to have links to the chip pages, but many stopped working, so I removed the links.

Sony has switched to the YY naming scheme for all of their Bluetooth devices, like headphones, wireless mice, and wireless keyboards. I suspect Sony still uses the HDX-#### scheme internally for development, as seen with the WF-C500 teardown, but this could be specific to certain models made by OEMs (ex Cresyn).

Here is the latest list (June 6 2025). Please keep in the mind that these codes are not just for wireless headphones, but also for wired, and their accessories like cables.
