A good source has just provided me with some information regarding the upcoming LinkBuds line. The upcoming 2 new models, the YY2964 and YY2975 will be known as the LinkBuds Open and LinkBuds Fit respectively.
Sony embracing unique model names is a a step in the right direction, and something I hope they continue with the other headphone models. This definitely helps with social media, reviews, and when discussing the earbuds. LinkBuds rolls off the tongue much better than WF-L900.
Do recall that the new Sony LinkBuds Open will be delayed. It has been 1 month exactly since Sony asked the FCC to dismiss the new model. The model's internal and external photos were supposed to be available today on the FCC. Unfortunately I have no news why it was delayed and when they will be released for the time being. Perhaps the delay could be connected to the above rebranding but impossible to know.
The LinkBuds Fit (YY2975) FCC short term confidentiality ends on December 14th, but as with previous models, the short term confidentiality date did not always indicate a release date. So we could still see the reveal earlier, perhaps even both models at the same time.
Update: I forgot to add, the supposed model numbers are WF-L910 for the LinkBuds Open, and WF-LS910N for the LinkBuds Fit.
So what are people's thoughts on the new names? Good decision by Sony or they should have kept the old model names?
Good, I like it. Using the names LinkBuds and LinkBuds S was very confusing.
ReplyDeleteHope they do this across their range. The next WF/WH need a rebranding!
