Sony WF-L900 leaked (update)
Many thanks to TechInsiderBlog on Twitter for the leak, make sure to give them a follow and check out their twitter for larger size photos.
So here we have it, the Sony WF-L900, the most peculiar WF headset from Sony yet. The design is nothing like anything from Sony, even the Xperia Ear Duo has a different design. The leak confirms the YY2953 codename as well (see below).Update:
The Canadian certification was wrong, there is no noise cancellation, not even passive like WF-C500. The FCC description is "Wireless Stereo Headset". I knew NC would be rather hard to implement on this I mentioned it even below, a large hole in the headset would not seal off the ear that well and let outside noise in.
The headset comes with active noise cancellation but I am not sure if it is dual mics like on the WF-1000XM4 or a single feed-forward mic. If there are 2 NC microphones, then the feed-back mic is either located near the smaller outer holes or in the inner longer holes. The feed-forward mic looks like it would be located around the dark line that surrounds the silver trim. If there is only one NC microphone, then there will be no feed-back mic and only a driver from the inner holes. Although I wonder how the NC works if the hole in the middle allows sound through, not isolating the sound.
Of course the presence of so many holes in the earpiece area brings up the question, why so many holes? Will there be multiple drivers or perhaps a balanced armature driver in addition to a regular one? There does not appear to be any physical button, so is the silver trim is touch sensitive? Most likely not since part of the silver trim is under the second body piece. I am really curious how Sony has integrated the button, if there is one at all.
Looking at the case, it looks like the rubber arc supporter probably will come in various sizes since there appears to be room in the case for longer versions. The colour options looks to be gray and white with a some sort of speckle pattern. Both colours were alluded to in the second post when I identified model back in late October.
Of course we still have many unknowns, like playback time, how many hours of recharge the case provides, voice assistant support, is there an IPX level, and where will these fit in the Sony lineup?
So are people excited for these? They look kind of cool but I wonder how well the NC will perform and how will they sound?
And now for the rest of the photos.

ReplyDeletereally weird but kinda cool at the same time. they look like they might fall out often.
ReplyDeleteBut what are these supposed to do? I mean I assume they do something different from the XM4 buds?
