Sony WF-1000XM4 replacement battery - Varta CP1254 C1 (Update)

Unfortunately this is not new news. but perhaps good news for current and future WF-1000XM4 owners. Recalling back to the WF-1000XM4 teardown post, we know the internal battery is a 3.85V coin cell. This normally would not be an issue except finding the Springpower 3.85V battery is near impossible right now. There may be some links on the web, but they seem sketchy and who knows what you will receive when you order it.

Enter Varta, September 2021, where they announced a new C version of the Coinpower 1254 battery, rated at 3.85V. The CP1254 C1 is the same size as the Springpower battery and has an almost identical capacity. In fact the Varta has 3mAh more if you want to get technical. The new C version alo has faster charging than the A version.

Of  course the question is, will consumers be able to buy it? Well I cannot find it on any site, especially since these were announced last September. This could mean that either these will only be available to manufacturers or it will take some time to get to consumers.

I have contacted Varta to ask if these batteries will be available for purchase by consumers, but I do not expect any replies. If anyone sees these new batteries somewhere online to buy, do post a link below. Likewise, if anyone in Germany wishes to contact Varta directly via their phone line and ask about them, that would be fantastic.

For those curious, the regular 3.7V CP1254 A3 battery works in the WF-1000XM4, but I suspect the battery life will be reduced. Thanks to anonymous for letting me know this exists.

Update:

I was able to contact Varta and ask about the new battery, and well it is not looking good. Varta only sells this battery to OEMs and does not sell the battery to consumers. Likewise there are no aftermarket sales either. So no store will stock these. Oh well.
