True Multipoint function Coming to Sony WF-1000XM4 and LinkBuds Line
Tucked in at the end of a recent press release for the new Blue LinkBuds S model, Sony announced that true mulitpoint support is finally coming to the WF-1000XM4 and LinkBuds S. While both models can connect to multiple devices currently, they cannot do it at the same time, like the WH-1000XM5.
The LinkBuds S will receive the update in November 2022, with the WF-1000XM4 slated to get the new firmware update this Winter. I am guessing this would mean before the year ends. This is great news, especially for those who wanted true multipoint support in a Sony TWS headset.
Unfortunately there is no mention whether this firmware update for multipoint support is related to LE Audio. This is most likely just the current firmware and codecs being adapted to support true multipoint. Likewise there is no mention if the WF-C500 will receive multipoint support. The WF-C500 is on another Bluetooth SoC, so perhaps this is why. The original LinkBuds will also get the update.
Like I mentioned at the start, Sony also announced a new colour for the LinkBuds S, blue.
The new colour is called "Earth Blue" and the plastic used if from recycled watercooler bottles. The plastic is used in both the earbuds and the case and is marbled as seen in the photo. More information about Sony's recycling and Road to Zero initiative can be found in the Press Release.
The new blue model will be available on Amazon in the US from late October 2022, and November 2022 for Europe.
In the UK right now, both the WF-1000XM4 and LinkBuds S are discounted.
Amazon Germany also has both models discounted, pretty good deals.
No word on LC3 / LE audio for WF-1000XM4 probably means that the LC3 update will be released for the Linkbuds only :(
