PULSE Explore Wireless Earbuds Bluetooth Certification

PULSE Explore wireless earbuds PlayStation 5

Sony's PlayStation earbuds have passed through Bluetooth certification a few days ago, along with the larger wireless headset. While it might be a while before we see the FCC filing photos (April 22, 2024), perhaps the Bluetooth certification can provide some clues to the chipset used.

The earbuds have the combined designs, 182912,194027. The Bluetooth version is 5.3.

Both designs are found in the Sony INZONE buds and new INZONE H5 headset. Likewise the same design is used in the Sunitec BM165M Bluetooth module. Even the Sony WF-1000XM5 is on this list as well.

We know that the INZONE H5 uses a Mediatek MT2822M chip, the Sunitec BM165M uses an Airoha AB1565M, the INZONE buds use Sony's own CXD3277 and its USB transceiver use the Airoha AB1565D, while the WF-1000XM5 have the Mediatek MT2833. So what chip are the PULSE Explore earbuds using? Well we have 4 options:

  1. Airoha AB1565
  2. Sony CXD3277
  3. Mediatek MT2822 (V1)
  4. Mediatek MT2833 (V2)

I have a write up on the V1 and V2 chips here, but basically the V1 is the Mediatek MT2822 (or Airoha AB1568) and the V2 is the Mediatek MT2833 (or Airoha AB1588). We still do not know what the Sony CXD3277 is, but I suspect it is custom Mediatek chip for Sony. Fundamentally the MT822 is a custom/rebranded AB1565, it is technically 3 chips. I suspect the Pulse earbuds might be uing a MT2822/AB1565 chip, but we will have to wait for a full teardown to see the exact chip.

For those wondering, the Pulse Explore earbuds are manufactured by Inventec Appliances Corp. a company from Taiwan.

We also know the battery capacities of the the charging case and earbuds themselves. The case comes with a 3.85V 780 mAh battery (model 541963), while the earbuds use a 1454 coin cell, rated at 3.85V 105 mAh. The coin cell is from Springpower, the same company which supplies the WF-1000XM4 and WF-1000XM5 batteries. The WF-1000XM5 battery, Z55FH is 3.85V 95 mAh.

Zenipower does have a 1454 Z75 coin cell, but this is 3.7V and 90mAh (0.33 Ah), so I suspect this new 105 mAh 3.85V could be a Z75H or even Z75FH.

The PULSE Explore earbuds should be released in early December, around the 6th.

If you cannot wait for the PULSE Explore earbuds, one could always pick up the INZONE buds.
