Sony WH-1000XM6 Slated for May Release (Update)
According to spektykles from Esato, the Sony WH-1000XM6 is slated for a May release. They did not mention specifically when, but one source told me early May, so either first or second week of May.
We still do not have an Apple MFi certification for the new model, but this should not matter, as it can be certified shortly after.
Sony WF-C710N retail listings started to appear 1 to 1.5 weeks before announcement, so I will be on the the lookout for those, as they make leak something. So who will be picking one up day 1? Or did the hinge breakage fiasco turn you off Sony for good?

Update:
Roland Quandt from Winfuture.de has posted an update on Bluesky regarding the WH-1000XM6
He says soon, which lines up with spektykles' info and what I was told. The WH-1000XM5 was announced on May 12, 2022, so perhaps we are looking at a similar date for the new WH-1000XM6.
As for price, no doubt components are more expensive now than they were 3 years ago, but if the rumours that EU pricing is going up to cover for US tariffs, then that would be a poor decision by Sony. If Roland is basing the 10% increase on the original retail price of 420 โฌ, then we could be looking at a price of around 459 โฌ. This seems awfully high. Unless this 10% extra is on top of the current price on Sony DE, which is 309 โฌ. Regardless a price increase is coming in Europe, so be prepared to pay more for the new model.
Will be interesting if the new model will appear on Bluetooth SIG before announcement like the WF-C710N or afterwards.
Is there any specs for the new headset?
ReplyDeletenot yet. hopefully soon.
DeleteWasn't affected by the fragile hinges but channel imbalances and hissing in wired instead.
ReplyDeleteI may still buy it day one if there are internal improvements but only because i can afford the loss if they end up the same or worse as XM5.
I worry they'll stop manufacturing XM4 in favor of a pricier model that may or may not be usable wired.(by usable i mean no hissing)
I'm a Strong supporter of Sony Xperia since long time (buy high end every year), but prefer Technics (Panasonic) for in-ear EAH-AZ100. sorry. WF serie is great too...
ReplyDeleteI'm confirm that time. I also know the price will increase.
ReplyDeletedo you have an idea which week in May?
DeleteI was at Media Markt today and asked the salesperson โ whom I know a little โ about the Sony WH-1000XM6.
ReplyDeleteHe confirmed that a Sony representative was there last week and said the headphones will be released in May. No pictures or features were shared, but apparently, they will be more expensive.
ah nice, thanks for the info. Looking on their site, both the WF and Wh mk5 are discounted right now.
DeleteSomeone who works at Costco told me they started receiving boxes from Sony with the paper tags you bring to the register at Costco to get expensive items. "Sealed until further notice," so it's unknown what's printed on the tags, but that's a clue
ReplyDeleteah very good news. I'll be on the lookout for retail listings, I suspect we should see some popping up soon.
DeleteSomone in the know told me: more bass, hinge like xm4 and reinforced (use of metal)
ReplyDeletehinge like xm4 as in it will fold?
DeleteYes, it's been a few weeks, but I'm pretty sure the person said they fold like the prior XM4s, and that the case it comes in is smaller.
DeleteXM5 on-star/asterisk* status at Costco (last shipment/no further restock mid/long-term)
ReplyDeleteI was excited to buy it..but look at the images and the driver size ..there will not be much innovation it seems.even sound quality will not improve much .. as same 30mm driver is being used. Only 360 audio like quad speakers is what I am looking forward to otherwise it seems same trend every industry just like mobile do minor changes and launch it like new product .. let's hope I am wrong and they will do some breakthrough Innovation or Exceptional improvement in audio quality will be there..
ReplyDeleteI have been using my WH-1000XM4s daily for almost 5 years now. The foam around the ears are shot and I'm eager to finally upgrade, after WH-1000XM5 didn't seem like it was worth it.
ReplyDeleteI just (REALLY) hope that the noise cancellation works for the microphone during phone calls, not just for the earphones. Whenever I'm on a call on my WH-1000XM4s, the person on the other end can hear every bit ambient noise, from wind to running water in the background and they find it very distracting.
I'm still with my WH-1000XM3, they still work great, i travelled everywhere with them, replaced the cups 3 times.
