Sony YY3000 - How many earbuds does Sony need?
A new import filing has revealed another upcoming headset, YY3000. All 3 import listings are for Japan, and the headset is described as having a "charging box", so a charging case.
The HS code points to headphones and earphones, so we cannot use that to identify what this is exactly. Edit, I have been comparing various older listings, and 85183020 seems to be earbuds, so these are either earbuds or an in-ear model. For example the IER-G900 (INZONE E9), when imported into Japan used the same HS code, 8518302.
So if this indeed is a set of earbuds, where will they be positioned? Sony already has the upcoming WF-1000XM6, WF-C710N, WF-C510, LinkBuds Fit and Open in their lineup, which is enough to cover the entire market segments. The WF-C510 is one model which could be replaced early next year, but that could be YY2999. Edit 2, while this could be a pair of earbuds, it could also be an in-ear model, not wireless.
Sony could add a pair of earbuds to the ULT line, so perhaps this is what we are looking at here. Honestly, I have no idea. Sony in a past interview said they wanted to simplify their lineup and remove models, so why add another one? Puzzling. Any ideas?

Maybe in removing one (or more) earbuds leaves space for one entirely new one which combines the features of both.
ReplyDeletePossibly a sport-focused non-bud-bud with Earloops like a Sony AS210?
Or more unlikely they are just making an ultra earbud at the very cutting edge of tech that is 400€+
Looking forward to the XM6 reveal - should make this one more interesting aswell.
Sport focused would be nice, but I always thought that was the domain of the linkbuds fit model, perhaps not. A high end model above the wf-1000xm6 would be interesting, but would it sell?
DeleteULT Buds feels like the missing one in their lineup, or new XB entry if it has not been replaced entirely.
ReplyDeleteI guess a follow up to the InZone Buds would also not be impossible, maybe a WF-G900N or 710N.
Personally I keep hoping for a new WI-1000X, but we can rule that out with the charging box. And of course XPAN/Snapdragon sound/wifi audio if that ever amounts to something.
valid point, I forgot about the inzone buds, so does definitely are in the running for replacement as well.
DeleteWhile I don't have much hope , I'm still waiting for new waterproof headsets.
ReplyDeleteThe WS series has been here for like almost a decade and there has been no proper successor.
Japan had the WF-SP900N and I was using it for a few years until the battery was gave in. It had probably the most secure fit I've seen and I was hoping there would be a replacement. Then they stopped making it. :(
I have edited the post, as these could be earbuds, but they could also be an in-ear model, either wireless or wired.
DeleteMy favorite thing about WF-SP900N was the built in memory, so I didn't have to rely on bluetooth which always I have stability issues with. Unfortunately, battery died in mine as well. Been considering getting one of the old Walkman NW-WS series, which unfortunately also died.
