Sony YY2950, YY1299B and YY1298B appear on Certification site (update 3)

Thanks to mirai160525 on Twitter for pointing this out. It looks like we have a few more wireless headphones/devices from Sony. Last month when I posted about the WI-C100, I speculated about the different missing codes for Sony's headphones, YY2950 to YY2956. Well it looks like one of those showed up, the YY2950.

Little information is provided from the certification, except that it is made in China and was certified at the end of October 2021.

The last device made in China was the WH-XB900N, but the new model the WH-XB910N is made in Vietnam now, so who knows what this is. I was under the impression Sony wanted to move their production out of China and focus on Malaysia and Vietnam. Guess this is not the case.

Update 1:

The YY2950 has appeared on Canada's certification site and while we still have no information about a model name, we know the headset will feature noise cancellation. Unfortunately the description says "Audio - Headphones/Earbuds" so no clue if these are earbuds or regular headphones. Likewise, the "Wireless Local Area Network Device" tag is here again like in the YY2953 (WF-L900), but I do not believe this means WiFi.

The other devices are the YY1298B and YY1299B. Both were certified on November 4th, so not that long ago.

Update 3:

Both players have appeared on the Canadian certification site, which probably means they will be available in Canada at some point. If anyone from Sony is reading this, I am willing to sign an NDA and test the new Walkmans out before their release. :D

Update 2:

So it was staring me right in the face after the Bluetooth certification, but I only just put it together after seeing the E-Comm certification for the new YY1298/99 products. The Bluetooth certification revealed the model code name, ICX-1298, and now the E-comm certification revealed the type of product. Now putting them together, it is clear that YY1298 is the ICX-1298 Walkman.

So the question now, is YY1299 another high end Walkman or just a different version of the ICX-1298? Perhaps like we had the WM1Z and WM1A. Most likely, the previous models also had sequential code names, NW-WM1A - ICX-1277 and NW-WM1Z - ICX-1278.

One thing that is still a mystery, why is there a B in the model name, YY1298B? Any ideas?

Notice the category for both devices, "Wireless Media Player". The same description is found for the A and ZX Walkmans (see below).

Both are made in China, but they do not follow the naming order currently being used. The number is too low and now there is a B at the end. Who knows what these are, but as we saw in the WF-C500 teardown, the PCB still uses the old codes, HDX-2952, rather than YY2952. So this means the model name for the certification is not really all that important.

With the appearance of the YY2950, we could still have YY2954, YY2955 and YY2956 appear next year. And of course we can also get YY2958 appearing after the WI-C100, but no point in jumping that far ahead.

Perhaps one of these is the WI-1000XM3 or whatever it could be called, but I doubt it, since these are made in China and such a model would be made in Malaysia (IMO). As always, leave your comments below what you think these new models could be.

  1. It could be WH1000XM5? I remember that the first leak came up on Brazilian site at this time around of the year 2019

    1. Don't think the flagship model would be built in China.
