Sony YY2950 shows up on the FCC (update)

Sony YY2950

I decided to group all the information about the YY2950 into one post, rather than have it combined with the Walkman devices post.  The top photo shows the label and outline of the charging case,  confirming we are looking at a WF headset.

I was going to try to estimate the size of the case but from my previous estimations I was not close. So I will bother doing that here. The shape of the case seems more curvier than the WF-1000XM4, and also has a flat bottom like the WF-1000XM4 and WF-C500. If this is a high end model, wireless charging should be offered.

The YY2950 was first certified on Korea's FCC back in October. The only information from the filing was that it was made in China.

The second certification from Canada revealed that the headset would feature noise cancellation, indicating this would be a higher end device. I suspect this model might be geared towards sound quality. Mainly because its short term confidentiality ends at the same time as the upcoming Walkmans, June 2022. With the Walkmans expected to replace the WM1-series, perhaps this headset will be signature series oriented WF model. Perhaps we might see a larger driver than the WF-1000XM4 or even a balanced armature driver as well.

Of course this could just end up being something entirely different, and not a high end model. But it is rather odd and intriguing that this showed up around the same time as the Walkman models, YY1298 and YY1299, were certified.

So would people be willing to pay more for a better sounding WF-1000XM4? I would consider it myself, but it all depends on the price.

Update:

This headset appeared on SIRIM, again confirming the noise cancellation aspect. Unfortunately, nothing more is revealed in the the filing.

As mentioned before, we are looking at a WF model with noise cancellation. But Sony already has the WF-1000XM4, so this will either sit below the WF-1000XM4 or above it in price and features. An import document only reveals the colours, black and white, but no model name just yet.
