Sony WF-1000XM5 passes through Bluetooth Certification (Update 4)

Sony WF-1000XM5 YY2963 WF1000XM5

The new WF-1000XM5 has finally appeared on Bluetooth SIG. The device will support Bluetooth 5.3 and should support LE Audio, since the Isochronous Adaptation Layer is supported.

The combined designs 182912 and 194027 both point to Sony re-using the Mediatek MT2822 SoC (See update #2 HERE), but not the same version found in the WF-1000XM4, but the version found in the LinkBuds and new WH-CH720N, which is the MT2822M. What the differences between the MT2822S, found in the WF-1000XM4, and the MT2822M are, is unknown. Perhaps it is just as simple as more onboard ram on the chip, but Mediatek does not really have any information about these chips anywhere.

So that is it for now. I have a feeling the new model will be here earlier than August, so start saving up.

To see the full leaked design, check this post. If anyone has anymore information about the new model, please contact me.

Update 4 (May 29, 2023)

Not much news to report, but I suspect an announcement is coming soon. The headset went through an import website from China into India for testing late April, but the listing just showed up a few days ago. The import filling reveals that the headset will again come with 4 different sized tips, SS, S, M and L. The tips seem to be manufactured in Thailand, where as the headset, China as we already know. Unfortunately the import filling does not reveal any other colours than black.

Update 3 (May 9, 2023)

The WF-1000XM5 has passed through E-ComM today.

The WF-C700N passed through the same site back on January 26th, and was unveiled on April 3rd. This is 67 days. If the WF-1000XM5 were to follow this timeline, we would potentially see an announcement around July 15th. The WF-1000XM5 short term confidentiality end date is August 22nd, so a July reveal could be plausible.

Update 2 (April 8, 2023)

The WF-1000XM5 has passed through the TDRA which is the certification body in the UAE. The certification does not reveal much. The newly released WF-C700N first appeared on the site on January 5th, 2023, and with the announcement this week, this came out to 88 days. But then both the WH-CH520 and WH-CH720N had 133 days between certification and announcement, so the time does vary.

But some other interesting news, supposedly the new Xperia 1 V will be offered with the WF-1000XM5 in some European countries. Unfortunately no date was provided.

Update (April 4, 2023)

The headset passed through Korea's FCC in the past few days. I wanted to post it on the day off but their website was not working. The certification confirms that the headset will be made in China. For comparison, the new WF-C700N appeared on Korea's FCC on November 23rd, 2022, and they were announced last day. This is 132 days. So if we add 132 days to the WF-1000XM5 date, we get August 14th, 2023. But of course this does not mean we will have to wait until August, there is a good chance we will see the headset earlier.

    1. Yes, I have the sunitec docs and fcc teardown, The BMS001 uses the mediatek MT2811B. Like I mentioned I suspect the embedded flash may be different in the different versions. But thanks for the link.
