Sony LinkBuds S LE Audio Firmware released

Sony LinkBuds S LE Audio firmware version 3.0.5

With 3 weeks until Spring 2023 ends, Sony has released their promised LE Audio firmware update for their LinkBuds S.

Of course, this firmware is listed as the Beta version of LE Audio, so it would suggest we might see another version a few months down the road. Naturally. you will need an LE capable device to take advantage of LE Audio. Sony's Xperia 1 IV and 5 IV both have LE Audio support as of their latest firmware. I am not sure about other smartphones.

If you own a Windows 11 computer, then you can also take advantage of LE Audio, but only if you have the latest 13th generation Intel platform according to the release from Microsoft. So if you do not have a 13th gen CPU from Intel, you are out of luck.

Finally the update improves the Quick Access settings for the Endel service, so they are now easier to configure. If this service is not available in your country, then that will not be much use for you. The update also includes all past updates, like multipoint connection, and the battery drain firmware fix.

So will anyone be updating to test out LE Audio? Or would you rather wait for non-Beta firmware?

  1. Can't wait for proper reviews, especially on battery life and audio quality compared to LDAC and SBC.
As great as it is for all Linkbuds S owners it still feels kinda stupid that the big brother aka WF-1000XM4 won't receive such an upgrade.

  2. It is positive step from Sony, but Google went one step further and has released Opus support for their earbuds. Given a choice between LC3 and Opus, I would take Opus because of better quality and even lower latency than LC3 I think. ๐Ÿค”
