Sony Walkman Turns 45

Sony Walkman Turns 45

The Sony Walkman turns 45 today. It is a brand close to my heart and I have many fond memories of my Walkmans. I have owned a few in my time, and I hope to have a post up in the near future of my Walkman experience over the years. The Walkman brand may not be as big as it was in the past, but we still have 3 models, and the A and ZX could receive Android 14 later this year.

My first Walkman was the Sony D-EJ925. Took me a good while to save up for it, but it was worth every penny. So what was your first Walkman that you owned? Drop your experiences and thoughts in the comments below.

    1. I would've loved owning any of those. Unfortunately, at the time I wasn't much into DAP. Still focused on CD then.

  5. My first Walkman was the WM-10. Sony at its pinnacle of miniaturization and design. Presently have NW-ZX300 and NW-A55.

  6. I used to have a cassette walkman that was given to me by someone in the family. Later I had a portable CD player from Sony, which I absolutely loved, which I got from my parents as a gift. Then, much later, A-816, Z1060, ZX2 (which I lost in a trip, sadly), A-306, WM1A and ZX707 (all three currently in use).

  7. Would a walkman connected to bluetooth headphones like the Sony WF1000XM5 give better sound quality compared to a smartphone?

    1. questionable. even with the LDAC. A wired connection would be superior though on a walkman and and wh-1000xm5 for example, or wired in-ear buds like an xba model.

    1. No idea, I don't have any information right now. But my guess is it won't be anytime soon, especially if we are to get an android 14 update for the A and ZX.

  9. Owned several walkman cassette decks growing up. Now I own the NW-A55 and the NW-WM1A. Considering the jump to the A-306 but there is something about the simplicity of just having a dedicated music player without the bloat of Android. Someone convince me to do it.
