Sony CES 2022 Preview

New Year and CES again. The press conference will take place on January 4th, 17:00 local time.

The only thing Sony has teased is their new Bravia XR line, supposedly this might use Samsung's QD-OLED tech.

Their twitter page also has a link to a Youtube video. The date on that is different to the press conference, January 4th, 07:00 PST, so it could just be only for the TV announcement which I suspect is taking center stage this year.

So will we see anything from the Audio department? I am not sure. The YY2953 (WF-L900) appeared back in late August 2021 on Korea's FCC, and in late October 2021 on the FCC. The short term confidentiality ends on April 22nd 2022, so while there is a chance the WF-L900 could appear at CES 2022, I feel we will get an announcement via press release in April/May. The next headset, the WI-C100 (YY2957) appeared on the FCC in the middle of October 2021. The short term confidentiality ends on April 11th 2022, so perhaps the headset will either get a release with the WF-L900 or just appear on the Sony website. The WI-C100 post is here.

I would not expect the Walkmans (YY1298, YY1299) to show up, their short term confidentiality ends in late June 2022. The same for the YY2950, which is another WF headset. More likely Summer 2022 announcements.

Finally the YY2959 which appeared on the Bluetooth certification site last week, still has no FCC certification so my bet is no, not at CES.

The photo on Sony's CES website just shows generic things, perhaps there will be an announcement for some high-resolution audio streaming service for the US and maybe European markets. The PS5 might get a mention, maybe some preview of upcoming games for 2022. The far right photo is just a photo of the Sony Airpeak S1, so nothing new here.

So apart from new TVs, I suspect Sony might announce a new sound bar or 2. I will be pleasantly surprised if we get any audio devices but I am not holding my breathe.
