Sony YY2989 - Gaming Headset or Earbuds? (Update)
I have found a new Sony YY code, YY2989, in an import filing. This import filing does not have a model number attached, so we can only guess what this could be based off the information provided.
The description has 2 colours, black and white, and the model is described as "headset without headband with adapter plug". Perhaps we are looking at a set of earbuds with a USB adapter. This would suggest maybe a new set of INZONE gaming earbuds? The INZONE earbuds were released in October 2023, so they are about 20 months old now. Unless Sony is planning a non-gaming set of earbuds with an adapter? The headset also has a second code designation, EPP-SON025. Not sure what the EPP stands for, but previous models have a SON0xx code. For example the WF-C710N are TNP-SON024 and the INZONE earbuds are TNP-SONTM05.
The purchase location for the steel molds is Vietnam, so an educated guess is this mode will be made in Vietnam.
From another website, it seems that the company importing this mold is Cresyn. This has the same model name "EPP-SON025".
Update - June 26
I found more import filings revealing some more information, specifically that we are looking at earbuds here and not an over-ears headset. Some of the filings show what could be production or pre-production models with CE7, J, UC and CN region codes. I still do not have the YY code for the adapter, so perhaps it uses the same one as YY2987, meaning YY2988. The current INZONE earbuds first appeared around a similar timeframe (June/July 2023), with similar import filings as well. This could suggest we could again see an announcement in the fall, perhaps in October.
Sony has a couple more gaming related devices coming later this year. I am thinking we will see these released in the summer, the latest in the autumn.

There is one more device I found, EMP-SON026. The only information provided is that this is a part for a headphone speaker, size 17 x15 x 0.3mm. If this is what goes onto the back of the driver, then this matches the size found on the rear of 30mm driver. I suspect this is a Sony model as it uses the SON0xx naming found on other previous Sony models like TNP-SON024 (WF-C710N) and TNP-SON023 (WF-C700N). Not all of Sony's models have such a code, so I believe this code is from the OEM, most likely Cresyn. Update, see this post.
