Sony YY2986 Confirmed as WF-C710N (Update 2)

Sony's WF-C700N successor leaked at the start of the year. and when I wrote the post, I was not sure if Sony would use WF-C710N as the new model name. Well I can now confirm that indeed WF-C710N will be the new model name for the WF-C700N successor.

Thanks to a newly released import filling, the YY2986 model code can be paired up with the WF-C710N model name.

So there we have it, the new model will indeed be called WF-C710N. For the previous YY2986 posts with photos of the headset, see here and here, but here is a quick summary of what we know so far:

• 4 colours - black, white, pink, transparent blue
• Noise Cancellation
  
• 3.85V 70mAh earbud battery
• 3.85V 500mAh case battery
• No wireless charging
• USB cable will be included in the box
  
• Proximity sensor for auto pause/play
• Possible LE Audio support

This is all the information so far from all the certifications. We still lack the codec support, battery life, type of noise cancellation, single or dual mic, driver size, and pricing. I am looking forward to the release.

The short term confidentiality date is June 14 2025, but we could see these announced possibly much earlier. Perhaps April 2025, as the WF-C700N were announced back in April in 2023.

Update - January 28 2025

The WF-C710N has appeared on Malaysia's SIRIM certification website today. I will have to check other models and their appearance on SIRIM to see if there is any correlation between appearance and announcement.

Update - January 22 2025

The new WF-C710N has appeared on Apple's MFi certification website.

It is difficult to say how much time between a MFi certification and release. Recall that the LinkBuds Fit (YY2975) were first identified via MFi back in June 2024, and then about 2 weeks later the model appeared on the FCC. Well we are in a different situation with the WF-C710N, as they already went through the FCC back on December 16th 2024.

If we set those differences aside, the LinkBuds Fit took about 127 from MFi to announcement, which even if use 120 days for the WF-C710N, then we would be looking at a late May announcement. This is still before the June 14th short term confidentiality date, but way after the WF-C700N April announcement date.

Although a May 2025 reveal is possible, but then where does this put any potential WF-1000XM6 announcement? June? July?
